Introduction
The Engineering Network Ltd, an established publisher and events organiser, with MachineBuilding.net, Industrial Technology and FasteningandBonding.net in their portfolio approached us to create a website for their upcoming event, Machine Building Live.
The goal was to create an online platform that would effectively promote the event, attract exhibitors, and streamline the registration process. As a trusted source of information and resources for the industry, Machine Building Live aims to bring together leading professionals and cutting-edge technology in the field of machine building at this one-day event
Project Analysis
The website and back office system for Machine Building Live was developed using a combination of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, and Bootstrap for the front-end development. The website uses a MySQLi database for storing data and Google Analytics for tracking website traffic and conversion rates. Google Captcha was used to stop spam submissions from the contact form and Google Maps were used to show the location of the event.
Client Requirements
One of the client's requirements was that the navigation bar and an additional red bar above it, should 'stick' to the top of the page as the user scrolls. Our developers tried several different methods before settling on having one bar fixed and the other in a 'sticky' position. This solution was able to meet their needs exactly, as opposed to being restricted by the limitations of off-the-shelf software.
The front-end of the site consists of several standard PHP scripts that include a mix of HTML markup and content driven by the CMS. This ensures that the website is user-friendly and easy to navigate. On the front page, we featured a large 'carousel' which continuously scrolls through the event sponsors' logos. We decided to use CSS here instead of javascript in order to optimise page speed loading etc.
Bespoke Functionality
Users can browse the event details such as its schedule, the attending exhibitors, details of the venue, view and download supplementary resources, and submit a request via the contact form to attend the event as either a guest or exhibitor. On submission of the contact form, a contact is automatically created as a potential lead in the backend and the site manager is notified so they can follow up. This allows the client to efficiently manage and communicate with potential attendees.
The website was designed and developed with the goal of effectively promoting the event and streamlining the registration process, resulting in an increase in exhibitor bookings. With the use of responsive design, user-friendly interface and custom solution, the website succeeded in meeting the client's needs and exceeded their expectations, something that would not have been possible with off-the-shelf software.
