Software built with AI, for Kent businesses

The speed and lower cost of building with AI, without the mess. From a software company in Gravesend that has been building business systems since 2011.

Rob Sherwood, co-founder of Dev Partners
Straight answer: we build software for Kent businesses using AI, so it costs less and arrives sooner than the traditional way, but an experienced developer decides what gets built and checks every line. If you want an AI consultant first, we'll tell you whether it's worth building at all.

A Gravesend team, not a London agency with a Kent page

Our office is on Windmill Street in Gravesend. Rob, Jason and a small team have built and looked after software for Kent businesses since 2011, mostly for the trade, logistics and publishing firms along the Thames and the Medway. A few of them, without the names:

  • A port and warehousing operator in Northfleet. We redesigned and modernised the warehouse management system their operation runs on.
  • Two B2B publishers around Rochester and the Hoo peninsula. Between them, more than 25 websites built, plus legacy sites taken on, upgraded and maintained.
  • An engineering events company at Kings Hill. Their event website and the back-office behind it.
  • A pet supplies business. A bespoke CRM, built from scratch, that runs the business day to day. We've worked with them for about ten years.

That's the kind of work we now do faster with AI. The systems are the same; the typing is quicker.

AI built into the systems Kent firms run on

Some of what we build uses AI to write the code. Some of it puts AI inside the finished system, doing a job your staff currently do by hand. These are typical examples for businesses like the ones above, not case studies.

Paperwork straight into the system

Delivery notes, supplier invoices and order PDFs read and entered into your warehouse, stock or accounts system, with anything uncertain flagged for a person.

Publishing and events workflows

Contributor copy tidied and tagged, delegate and exhibitor data cleaned and matched, long documents summarised inside the system your editors already use.

Replacing the spreadsheet

The spreadsheet the business depends on, turned into a proper system with logins, history and backups. Built with AI, so it costs a fraction of what it used to.

Joining systems up

Your shop, stock system, CRM and accounts passing data to each other, so nobody types the same order twice.

First, should it be built at all?

Plenty of people want an AI consultant to tell them how to build something. The more useful question comes first: should you build it, buy it, or use something that already exists? If an off-the-shelf product does the job, we'll say so. If an open-source tool does 80% of it, we'll adapt that rather than start from scratch. There's more on the decision in bespoke software vs off the shelf.

When building is the answer, we work out what to build first and what can wait, so the first version is small, useful and cheap. Then we build it. What it typically costs, and why AI lowers the build bill more than the running bill, is in what AI-built software costs.

Faster with AI, still properly built

  1. 1

    Come and see the work

We're close enough to come to you. An afternoon with the people who'll use the system beats any specification.

  2. 2

    A developer designs it

An experienced developer decides the structure, the data and the security. The AI doesn't make those calls.

  3. 3

    AI does the typing

The tools write a lot of the code. Every line is read, tested and understood before it goes anywhere near your business.

  4. 4

    It's yours, and looked after

You own the code and the accounts. We keep it running, or hand it over with documentation if you'd rather.

The difference between this and vibe coding is laid out in AI-assisted development vs vibe coding, and more on how we do it is in AI software development, done properly.

If someone in the business has already built an app with AI

It happens a lot now: someone builds a useful tool in Lovable, Bolt or Replit over a few weekends, and it quietly becomes something the business depends on. That's not a bad thing, but it needs checking before customers or staff data go anywhere near it.

Start with our security checklist for vibe-coded apps. If you'd rather we looked, our AI Code Audit is a fixed-price written review, and if it's already struggling, here's how we rescue AI-built apps.

If you want someone to own the whole technology plan, AI builds included, that's our fractional CTO, or the lot can sit inside Your tech department.

What Kent businesses ask us

Yes. We're in Gravesend, so most of Kent is a short trip. We'll come to you wherever you are if the project needs it, and for Kent businesses that's an easy yes. Day to day, the work is done remotely.

The build usually is, because AI does a lot of the typing. The running costs, hosting, updates and support, don't fall by as much. We'll show you both before you commit.

Usually. Most business systems have a way in, either an API or the database. We build the feature so AI reads from and writes to your system properly, rather than staff copying and pasting between windows.

You need someone to ask whether it should be built at all, what to build first, and whether something off the shelf already does it. That's the first conversation we have, and it costs nothing to have it.

You do, from day one, along with the hosting accounts and the logins. AI writing some of the code doesn't change that.

Talk to us about building it with AI

Tell us what you want built, or what's eating your team's week, and we'll tell you honestly whether to build it.

What the business does, which systems you use, and what you have in mind. If buying something off the shelf is the better answer, we'll say so.

What we will cover:

  • Whether it should be built, bought or adapted
  • What to build first
  • What building it with AI would take
  • Whether you need us at all
