Twenty CRM, self hosted and joined up

The modern open-source CRM, run on your own server and connected to the rest of your business through its API.

Rob Sherwood, co-founder of Dev Partners
Straight answer: Twenty is a modern open-source CRM you can self-host with Docker. It is not built in our usual PHP stack, so we help with deployment and hosting, set it up with its own custom objects, and integrate it with your other systems through its API and webhooks.

The CRM that feels like Notion

Twenty has the most polished interface of the open-source CRMs: tables and boards that feel like Notion or Airtable, with custom objects and fields you set up in the app itself. It is written in TypeScript with NestJS, React, PostgreSQL and Redis, and it moves fast: version 2.45.0 came out on 5 October 2026.

The licence needs a careful read. According to the LICENSE file in its repository (checked 11 October 2026), most of Twenty is under the AGPLv3, some files marked "Enterprise" are under a commercial licence, and some developer packages are MIT. We go through what that means for your setup before anything is installed.

We are open about our position: Twenty is not our home stack, and we have not run it for a client yet. Where we add value is the self-hosting, the integrations and the honest advice on whether it suits you.

Twenty CRM self hosted: deployment and upkeep

Twenty CRM self hosted runs with Docker Compose, using the images and instructions in Twenty's self-hosting documentation. A Twenty CRM deployment for a small team needs a server with a few gigabytes of memory, PostgreSQL, Redis and a proper domain with HTTPS.

The setup is the quick part. What needs care is what comes after:

  • Upgrades. Twenty releases often and its database changes move forward only, so every upgrade starts with a backup and a test run.
  • Backups. Nightly database backups off the server, with restores actually tested.
  • Security. Patching, access limited to the people who need it, and Twenty's own safety settings left on unless there is a good reason.

We run this on UK servers in an account you own. More in Linux server management.

Twenty CRM customization and integrations

Twenty CRM customization

Most customisation in Twenty happens in the app: custom objects, fields, views and workflows. We set those up around how your team sells, which keeps them safe through upgrades. For anything the app cannot do, we build a small service alongside Twenty that talks to it through its API, rather than changing Twenty's own code.

Twenty CRM integrations

Twenty has REST and GraphQL APIs and webhooks that fire when records are created, updated or deleted, according to its developer documentation. It also syncs email and calendars from Google Workspace and Microsoft 365. Through those we can connect it to your website forms, accounts package, Shopify or your own systems, so data moves without anyone retyping it.

When Twenty is not the right choice

You need deep custom code

If the CRM itself needs heavy changes, Krayin (Laravel) or EspoCRM (PHP) are easier to extend safely.

You need breadth today

Quotes, invoicing, campaigns and support cases out of the box point more to SuiteCRM.

What people ask about Twenty

Yes. Most of Twenty is open source under the AGPLv3 and can be self-hosted with Docker. Some features are under a commercial licence, so check which ones you need. You pay for the server and for looking after it.

Getting it running with Docker Compose is quick. Keeping it running is the work: upgrades need a backup and a test first, and the database and server need watching.

Yes. It has REST and GraphQL APIs and webhooks, and syncs email and calendars from Google Workspace and Microsoft 365. Most integrations are built through those.

We keep custom code outside Twenty where we can, as a separate service talking to its API. Twenty is not our core stack, and that approach keeps your upgrades simple.
