Protecting your SEO with 301 redirects

This is the single most important technical task in the migration, and the one most often rushed.

Your Visualsoft store has years of indexed URLs, backlinks and rankings attached to specific addresses. Shopify uses a different URL structure (for example, products live under /products/ and collections under /collections/). Every meaningful old URL must be mapped to its best new equivalent and served as a 301 redirect, so both search engines and existing links are passed cleanly to the new page.

Visualsoft's URL patterns are specific, and a generic, rule-of-thumb redirect job misses edge cases — discontinued products, old campaign URLs, paginated category pages — which is exactly where rankings leak away. We build the redirect map from a full crawl of your live store, not from assumptions, and validate it before and after go-live.

Data migration questions

Will my full order history transfer to Shopify?
Yes. Complete historical orders can be imported into Shopify so reporting, returns and customer history continue without a gap. The data is reconciled after import to confirm totals and counts match the source.
Can customer passwords be migrated?
No — and this is true of any platform migration, not just Visualsoft. Passwords are stored encrypted and can't be moved between systems, so customers set a new password on their first login to the Shopify store. Their account, details and order history all carry over.
How are 301 redirects handled?
We crawl your live Visualsoft store to capture every indexed URL, map each to its best Shopify equivalent, and implement them as 301 redirects. The map is validated before launch and re-checked afterwards, with Search Console monitored through the switchover.
Will I lose rankings when the URLs change?
Not if the redirects are done properly. A 301 passes the ranking signals from the old URL to the new one. Done thoroughly, a migration holds rankings and often improves them as Shopify's speed and stability take effect.
What happens to my custom product data?
Visualsoft's custom attributes and extra fields are mapped to Shopify metafields rather than dropped, so bespoke specs and content stay attached to the right products and remain editable.
How do you make sure nothing is lost?
Every migration includes validation: record counts and key fields are compared between the source and Shopify, and a sample is checked manually. Nothing goes live until the data has been verified.
